What is the Exchange? THE EXCHANGE is a series of evening events, held weekly, featuring guest presentations, performances, and activities. Sessions explore the pressing issues, histories, challenges, innovations, and vibrant cultures that make the Asia-Pacific region unique. THE EXCHANGE is a chance for students and distinguished guests to share their time and their ideas, with each becoming better informed and better connected as a result. "Making learning innovative, creative, engaging, and fun" Aloha East-West Center students, We cordially invite you to the 2023 spring edition of "The Exchange" scheduled to run through Monday, January 23 until Monday, April 3. The opening session will take place at the Imin International Conference Center on Monday, January 23 from 6:30PM to 8:30PM . This semester's theme is Making learning innovative, creative, engaging, and fun. The theme takes inspiration from the changes that happened during COVID-19 and how individuals involved in higher education had to adjust to unique learning styles. This semester’s exchange will follow a similar footprint, exploring how people continue to make learning innovative, creative, engaging, and fun! The Exchange this spring will tap into different mediums such as dance, film, and poetry, to unearth how our guest speakers for all eight sessions use these styles to inspire creative learning among students. The Exchange Team
HUMA NASIR Logistics Intern Huma Nasir is a Lawyer and a Youth Advisory Board Member at The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights. Her practice and research interests are centered around gender justice, human rights, peace-building, and alternate dispute resolution. She is passionate about strengthening the youth-inclusive peace process and hopes to advance feminist peace in international peace and security efforts. She is a current Graduate Degree Fellow at the East-West Center and is specializing in International Conflict Resolution. 
HAIDER RIFAAT
Communication Intern Hailing from Islamabad, Pakistan, Haider graduated as a gold medalist, earning his BA honors in Social Sciences, majoring in Psychology from SZABIST. He is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Communication from the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa. Haider is also an entertainment journalist, serving as features writer for OK! Pakistan, the international edition of OK! Magazine, and as contributing writer to DAWN Images and Flanelle Magazine. Haider has interviewed numerous international celebrities, including Marisol Nichols from Riverdale, William Moseley from The Chronicles of Narnia, Tasya Teles from The 100, Grammy-nominated singer Shontelle, Romanian singer INNA, and other major celebrities, journalists and dignitaries. In his interviews, Haider likes to dig deep about issues affecting the entertainment industry at large. He is also the creator and host of Pakistan's first web talk show on YouTube titled "The Haider Rifaat Show." Outside of academics, Haider likes photography, performing arts and tennis. 
ALI IJAZ
Performance Intern Ali is a Graduate Degree Fellow at the East-West Center and an MA student of Communication at UH Manoa. He is a filmmaker who loves weaving stories around culture, environmental issues and wildlife. Ali is currently working on a practicum documentary film that explores the cultural and ecological significance of the Hawaiian snails. Ali loves reading books, admiring nature, spinning his staff and surfing. |
PINDARICA MALYROJSIRI
Food Intern Pindarica is currently a graduate student at the Department of Political Science and a Graduate Degree Fellow at the East-West Center. Her expertise lies in conflict resolution, she had worked on peace-building and conflict resolution with civil society in the Southern border provinces of Thailand/Patani for seven years. Pindarica has also worked with Peace Corps Thailand and international non-governmental organizations with a focus on development. She received her MA in International Peace Studies from the University of Peace in Costa Rica and the Philippines. In her free time, she enjoys surfing and biking. 
SARA HAUF Planning & Speakers Intern Sara is a Cambodian-American student who grew up in Cambridge, MA, USA. She received a BA and graduated summa cum laude in Political Science from the University of Colorado Boulder in 2021. She is currently pursuing a Master's in Asian International Affairs with a focus on political violence in Southeast Asia. In her free time, Sara likes to cook, read, hike, surf, and play tennis. She plans to remain on Oahu after she graduates in May and is looking forward to working with the Pacific Forum for her Capstone project! 
Kalā Muller
Activities Intern Kalā is an MFA candidate in the Theatre and Dance program at UH Mānoa with a focus on performance. For this semester’s exchange, Kalā had a place on the team as Activities Coordinator. When he is not on stage or working on a project at the Kennedy Theater, he enjoys watching soccer, watching movies, and spending time with friends. He would like to thank the entire team for their hard work in bringing this spring exchange to life! |
